Organism Additional Information | H. hispanica, a halophilic archaeon, is extraordinary among members of the Halobacteriaceae in that it displays particularly low restriction activity and is therefore important as one of the most tractable haloarchaea for archaeal genetic research. The membrane contains a high content of carotenoid pigments (bacterioruberin) which give red pigmentation to the cells. It needs at least 3.4 M NaCl (higher than that needed by H. volcanii) for good growth. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
