Validation Status Uncharacterized
Organism Information
Organism NameListeria monocytogenes serovar 4b
Domain Bacteria
Classification Phylum : Firmicutes
Class : Bacilli
Orders : Bacillales
Family : Listeriaceae
Genus : Listeria
Species : monocytogenes
Taxonomic ID (NCBI) 1639
Genome Information
Organism Additional Information It has a distinguishing ability to invade and replicate within mammalian cells
Protein Information
Protein Namecell wall
Subcellular Locationcell wall
Function Cellular invasiveness and virulence
the pathogen may retain GlcNAc on WTA to promote important functions related to biofilm formation, tolerance toward cleaning products and antimicrobial peptides, and possibly, to sustain virulence
Glycosylation Status
Technique(s) used for Glycosylation DetectionMS analysis
Glycan Information
Glycan Annotation Monosaccharide (Galactose, GlcNAc)
Technique(s) used for Glycan Identification UPLC-MS/MS
Protein Glycosylation linked (PGL) gene(s)
Additional CommentIt is reported for the first time that the lack of GlcNAc on WTA protects L. monocytogenes against the antimicrobial activity of FFAs. FFAs are repelled from the bacterium in the absence of GlcNAc due to a more hydrophilic surface. Notably, FFA PA effectively inhibited the expression of PrfA-dependent genes, virulence genes, regardless of the presence or absence of WTA decorations.
